A Night with an Oxford Scholar

This is a night intended to help us learn to better love the Lord our God with our minds, in hopes that our heart, soul, and strength might follow.

Dr. Andrew J. Newell is a member of the English Literature faculty at the University of Oxford and was named the J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis Inklings Scholar at Wycliffe Hall in 2019.

Dr. Newell's lecture is titled "The New Religion and the Myth of Progress." This lecture will give a brief tour of the major philosophical ideas that have ushered in the predominant secular views of our age. These secular views are wielded by many if not most of the non-religious people in our lives and have strong influence on things like education, government, business, sexuality, morality, ethics, truth, and freedom.

Dr. Newell with then help us understand where a Biblical worldview deviates from the secular view and how we as Christians might best defend against the pitfalls of secularism and love those captured by it.
